Meizu MX5 – The Flagship killer for 2015

After a whole lot of speculations and rumors about the next killer flagship by Chinese OEM Meizu, Meizu MX5 was made official yesterday. Meizu is known among its competitors for top-notch quality specs along with a decent price range with its offerings. And Meizu MX5 is no different here. How good are the specs and how does it fare against its rivals, lets find out.

Meizu MX5 – Specifications

2015 can undoubtedly be said to be an important year for the smartphone industry. Apparently, the past few years have been great actually, with an evident overhaul in almost every aspect of our smartphone experience. The screens have gone bigger, optics now have more pixels in every shot, battery life has been bumped up (Ahem ahem, Apple), and we have nifty additions such as the fingerprint scanners and laser-aided focusing to make our devices more than just multimedia bricks. Meizu MX5 follows the same strategy, and proves its mettle with the following incredible specifications.

Display – The screen is a massive 5.5 inch with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, giving us a ppi of 401. Meizu moved on to an AMOLED display from the traditional LCD panel seen with its MX4 last year.

Processor – Meizu MX5 packs a Helio X10 Turbo processor with ARM Cortex configuration, which is Octa-core, each core clocked at 2.2 GHz. For power gaming, we have a PowerVR G6200 GPU along with 3GB LPDDR3 RAM for efficient multitasking.

Camera – Following the flagship routine, Meizu opted for a 20.7 MP  rear shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and a 5 MP front facing camera. Meizu takes things a level up, and adds laser-aided focusing alongside the rear camera. Well done, Meizu.

Sensors – We have all the traditional sensors on-board. They include

  • Hall Effect sensor
  • Gravity sensor
  • IR proximity sensor
  • Gyroscope
  • Ambient light sensor
  • Touch sensor!
  • Digital compass

Yes, we have a touch sensor too! Meizu’s mTouch 2.0 enables a response speed of 0.48 seconds. Imagine yourself there. You place your finger over the sensor and boom! It unlocks, in less than half a second.

Operating System – Meizu MX5 will be running Android Lollipop 5.1.x out of the box, layered with its proprietary Flyme OS 4.5, which the company claims is 20% faster and more responsive than Flyme 4.0 on MX4. Being a flagship, it is sure to receive an Android M update in future.
(Nexus 5 fanatics, we have official Flyme OS 4.1.1R build available. Check it out here.)

There we have it. The Meizu MX5, in all its glory.
